Under the supervision of the Supervising Resident Assistant, the Resident Assistant/Kitchen Lead will perform various duties in preparation and serving of food at our Mary’s Haven home, including baking, serving and stocking food items; maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition. The Kitchen Lead Worker will develop weekly menus and coordinate the purchase of grocery items. The Kitchen Lead will supervise residents assigned to work in the kitchen and food pantry. The Kitchen Lead will teach cooking classes and demonstrate proper cooking techniques and sanitation to residents enrolled in the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Supervising Resident Assistant
  • Develop a healthy menu for families in placement; inclusive of food allergies and dietary requirements
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation and storage facilities and equipment
  • Coordinate the purchase of groceries and food items with the Site Supervisor
  • Supervise residents assigned to the kitchen and other food facilities, teaching proper hygiene and sanitation practices
  • Teach cooking classes and demonstrate healthy food preparation
  • Ensure that all residents are maintaining the common areas and cleaning up after themselves.
  • Ensure that residents are following the house rules, including, but not limited to, lights out and curfew.
  • Ensures a sober living environment and adheres to all agency policies pertaining to substances and contraband.
  • Observe and report any unusual behaviors or potential conflict between residents and make attempts to find appropriate resolution.
  • Monitor proper use of household items or equipment.
  • Report all necessary repairs or maintenance requirements.
  • Observe and report any unusual activities that may pose a safety or nuisance issue for residents and/or neighbors.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Written and oral communication skills; must be able to concentrate on work amid distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot traffic.
  • Must demonstrate ability to de-escalate situations using verbal techniques.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must possess a reading and writing level that provides for clear expression and/or understanding of assignments related to the job description.
  • Ability to represent the company well in interactions, both inside and outside of the facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license and driving record that meets the standards of the company’s auto insurance provider.
  • Must be able to comply with all background check protocols outlined in AB 506.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a commercial food service environment, such as school or hospital cafeteria.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
