Senior Litigation Attorney (Insurance Defense)
About the Opportunity
A well-established and nationally respected litigation defense firm with offices across multiple states is seeking a Senior Litigation Attorney for its Phoenix office. This key hire will work closely with senior partners and take full ownership of complex litigation mattersincluding trial strategy, first-chair responsibilities, and mentorship of junior associates.
Were looking for someone with a solid defense litigation background who can manage cases independently, guide a team, and communicate confidently with clients. While the ideal candidate has 10+ years of litigation experience, we are open to attorneys with fewer years who bring strong trial experience and a proven record of courtroom success. Candidates with a book of business will be considered for lateral partner-level arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full caseload of civil litigation and insurance defense matters from inception through trial
- Develop and execute litigation strategy, discovery, motions, and trial prep
- Serve as first-chair trial counsel when cases go to trial
- Mentor and direct junior associates
- Maintain strong client relationships and case accountability
- Receive file assignments from equity partners and run with them independently
Ideal Qualifications
- Licensed in Arizona (required); California bar is a strong plus
- 10+ years of litigation experience preferred; less may be considered if trial experience is strong
- Demonstrated experience with trial strategy and courtroom advocacy
- Ability to lead litigation teams and mentor junior attorneys
- Strong writing, research, organizational, and communication skills
- Self-directed, accountable, and able to manage high-level litigation work
Compensation & Perks
- Base Salary: $180,000 $215,000, DOE
- Bonus Structure:
- 1,800 billable hour requirement
- Bonus paid in March for all hours billed over 1,800
- Additional profit distribution paid at year-end
- Alternative compensation structures available for candidates with a portable book of business
- Hybrid work schedule (minimum 2 days/week in office)
