Job Description

As a Medical Technologist, you will perform blood, urine, and body fluid tests with precision and a deep understanding of the underlying theories. You will study the morphology of blood constituents to gather data essential for diagnosing and treating diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Gain experience and develop working knowledge by performing routine procedures utilizing complex instrumentation and manual methods.
  • Ensure the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of results with supervisor review.
  • Perform and maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control.
  • Refer problems and unusual results to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide clerical and support services as needed, responding to customer needs and requests.
  • Participate in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing education.
  • Engage in continuing education programs related to laboratories.
  • Receive acceptable blood specimens, label specimens, log information, and separate specimens for testing.
  • Perform automated testing of CBC, platelet, retic and autodiff, body fluid counts, ESR, PT, PTT and Fibrinogen, D-Dimer, and urinalysis.
  • Perform spun hematocrits, microscopic urinalysis, WBC, CSF, and body fluid counts, joint fluid testing for crystals, and differential cell counts.
  • Consult with supervisory technologist and/or hematologist/pathologist regarding difficult analyses or abnormal findings.
  • Record test results and operate computer terminals to manage laboratory data.
  • Assist supervisory technologist and address hematology-related questions.
  • Perform quality control procedures accurately, documenting corrective actions and maintenance logs.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, notifying supervisors of unsafe conditions, and participating in safety education and competency activities.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in laboratory, medical, and hematology procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in clinical laboratory practices and medical technology.
  • Eligible for ASCP certification.
  • Strong pipetting skills and familiarity with laboratory math and calculations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited college required.
  • ASCP Certified
  • Proficient in laboratory, medical, and hematology procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in clinical laboratory practices and medical technology.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $33.00/hr.
