Summary

We are looking for an experienced and highly qualified Electrical Controls Engineer to oversee the development of automated control systems. We primarily work with electrical systems, so our ideal candidate has at least working experience in electrical engineering. You use PLC programming products, such as Allen Bradley, to create control systems. You also must know how to read electrical schematics, being able to draft schematics in AutoCAD is a plus.

Responsibilities for electrical controls engineer

  • Assist / lead the development of scope for projects and selection of team members
  • Assist / lead the completion of engineering & design work related to install and retro-fit of varied, complex equipment
  • Assist Maintenance with advanced day-to-day equipment troubleshooting
  • Assist with the development of standards, processes and procedures within the department
  • Some travel (0-20%) is required over the course of a project lifecycle (other Highland Baking facilities, vendors)
  • Enhances equipment performance by developing and installing modifications
  • Confirms equipment performance by conducting tests/evaluation of physical assets PLC
  • Supports implementation of Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives
  • Infrastructure requirements and needs assessment

Skills and Responsibilities

  • The Electrical Controls Engineer will need to have strong troubleshooting skills electrically in order to quickly resolve or repair issues. You will need to have a strong eye for technical specifics and potential trouble spots.
  • Must possess strong organizational, problem solving, along with great verbal and written communication skills. Need to be detail-oriented who can meet deadlines and work with diverse employees. You must respect all employees and be willing to train your fellow peers. It is important that you possess the ability to work independently, with good judgmental and decision-making skills.
  • Responsible for reporting any and all safety issues to your manager in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of the health and safety regulations.
    1. Including Highland Baking Company’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
    2. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    3. Knowledge of safe practices.
  • Ability to use electrical metering and inspection tools.
  • Knowledgeable in Allen-Bradley Software.
  • Good understanding in networking configuration.
  • Modify Electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical
  • Able to follow and execute instructions.

Physical Demands


The position requires regular physical activity such as reaching, bending, twisting, squatting, lifting 50 pounds or more, and walking/standing within and around the site for a minimum of 8-12 hours daily.
