Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Specialist
Job Description
Job DescriptionJoin Us as an Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Specialist
Company: Bingham & Taylor
Location: Fredericksburg, VA
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor
Shift: 2nd Shift, Weekends
A day in the life
It’s second shift on a weekend, and production calls — a critical line is down. You step in, quickly assess the situation, trace the fault through PLC ladder logic and I/O, isolate a medium-voltage breaker issue, and bring the equipment back online safely. Later, you collaborate with Operations to fine-tune a VFD, adjust a furnace control SCR, and document your work with clear sketches and updates to the maintenance playbook. Before clocking out, you help plan a new equipment install and identify a predictive maintenance opportunity that will boost uptime next week.
What you’ll own
- Lead troubleshooting and rapid repairs across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems to minimize downtime and protect product quality and cost.
- Isolate, test, and diagnose low- and medium-voltage distribution systems (fuses, switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, etc.).
- Read and interpret PLC ladder logic, electrical schematics, and I/O diagrams; make minor program edits and troubleshoot PLCs.
- Navigate Ethernet networks, identify/log onto PLC addresses, and demonstrate a solid grasp of IP addressing.
- Tackle relay logic circuits, VFD motor drives, and furnace control SCR systems with a methodical problem-solving approach.
- Use precision tools (Multimeter, Oscilloscope, Megger) and all common hand tools with confidence.
- Locate and interpret drawings, manuals, and special procedures from files, vendors, online sources, and manufacturers; create supplemental sketches/diagrams to clearly communicate issues.
- Continuously improve reactive, preventive, and predictive maintenance programs; drive CI opportunities across the plant.
- Develop into a resident technical expert for specialized assets like melting induction furnaces, sand mold machines, and air compressors.
- Champion safe work practices and environmental stewardship in every task.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree in a technical field or 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience; Mechatronics background/certification preferred.
- Hands-on industrial equipment experience with multi-craft capability.
- Preferred: basic stick welding, torch/plasma cutting, and familiarity with mobile equipment operation.
