Saint Albert Catholic, a co-educational, child care center to high school located in Council Bluffs, Iowa, seeks a part-time facilities custodial/maintenance individual who is passionate about advancing the mission of Catholic education.


Department: Building Facilities & Grounds

Position: Part-Time Maintenance

Reports To: Director of Facilities

FSLA: non-exempt (Hourly)


Position Purpose: Work, as directed, efficiently in the areas of custodial, maintenance, and overall operation of the school buildings and grounds. This is a part-time hourly position that requires flexibility.


Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the building and grounds in a safe, clean, and neat condition.
  • Operate, maintain, clean, and organize the shop, equipment, and vehicles
  • Perform basic necessary preventative maintenance on all school equipment
  • Perform basic necessary non-technical maintenance of all essential building systems
  • Help with seasonal outside work
  • Fulfill all other work that is requested and directed


Potential Job Details (examples of work):


  • General cleaning of common areas, keeping areas clean and tidy. This involves vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors, cleaning windows, and other tasks.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the vehicles, bus, mowers, and equipment of the school for basic daily use
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance and care
  • Assembling furniture, basic construction of school purchased items
  • Seasonal outside work: snow removal, mowing, landscaping, fencing, gardening, painting, cleaning
  • Setting up, tearing down, cleaning, vacuuming for events located on the grounds
  • Anything else deemed necessary to maintain a clean, safe, and functional school grounds in support of all staff, teachers, coaches, and volunteers at Saint Albert

Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to use equipment within the facility to complete assigned tasks.
  • Possesses good interpersonal skills to cooperatively deal with a variety of school personnel, vendors, and patrons.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to follow instructions and accept constructive feedback from supervisor and/or other school administrators.
  • Possess problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Adaptable to varying work situations.
  • Must have demonstrated good attendance, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work alone and be a team player, working successfully in collaboration with others to complete tasks.
  • Ability to cope with stress and keep moving forward to complete the task(s).
  • Take pride in the work performed.


Education or Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with cleaning, upkeep, and repair of commercial facilities
  • Basic understanding of shop tools, and maintaining shop equipment


Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • The position is very active and requires daily bending, crawling, climbing, crouching, kneeling, standing, stooping, and walking.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs regularly (75% of the time).
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs periodically (10% of the time).
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Work with chemicals commonly used in cleaning and maintaining a commercial facility.
  • Ability and willingness to perform duties in adverse environments, both indoors and outdoors.

There are no direct reports.
