NSC Staffing has an immediate opening for a Plasma Operator in Dallas, TX
Shift: 2nd shift 3pm-11:30pm, Monday – Friday
Pay: $25-$30/hour based on experience
Steel toe boots and jeans required
Position Overview
The Plasma Operator is responsible for operating CNC plasma cutting equipment to cut and shape steel plates and components according to production requirements. This role requires strong technical knowledge of plasma cutting systems, understanding of steel grades and thicknesses, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a heavy-industrial environment. The operator plays a key role in ensuring high-quality output, efficient workflow, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate CNC plasma cutting machines to cut steel plates, profiles, and components to exact specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and cutting lists to plan and execute accurate cuts.
- Set up machines including torch height settings, consumable changes, material alignment, and programming of cutting paths.
- Monitor cutting operations, adjusting settings to maintain cut quality, edge finish, and dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect finished parts for quality, tolerances, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on plasma tables, torches, consumables, and filtration systems.
- Troubleshoot machine or cut-quality issues, including arc stability, dross formation, or material irregularities.
- Load and unload steel plates using overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, following company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Collaborate with production supervisors, welders, and fabrication teams to support workflow and meet production targets.
- Complete production documentation, logging material usage, job numbers, and equipment performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience operating CNC plasma cutting equipment in a steel fabrication or metalworking environment.
- Strong understanding of steel grades, plate thicknesses, and material behavior during cutting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD/CAM-generated cutting files.
- Experience with CNC controls, nesting software, and G-code
Experience with Multicam is a big plus - Skilled in quality inspection tools such as tape measures, calipers, and squares.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety.
