Litigation Associate Attorney
Sacramento, CA or San Francisco, CA

Direct Counsel is seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney on behalf of a respected California law firm known for its impactful casework and collaborative culture. This position involves high-level legal analysis and exposure to complex, sensitive matters—offering early responsibility, strong mentorship, and meaningful courtroom experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle substantive litigation matters involving constitutional issues, labor and employment, and personal injury.

  • Draft persuasive dispositive motions and manage all phases of discovery.

  • Conduct detailed legal research and contribute to the development of litigation strategy.

  • Appear in court and work directly with clients on sensitive legal matters requiring discretion and resilience.

  • Collaborate closely with a team of seasoned litigators on high-stakes cases.

Qualifications:

  • 2-6 years of litigation experience, ideally with exposure to constitutional law, labor & employment, or personal injury.

  • Strong legal writing and research skills.

  • Prior experience in court; comfort handling hearings and motion practice.

  • Backgrounds in public defense, insurance defense, or toxic torts are especially valued.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure when working on emotionally charged or sensitive subject matter.

Work Environment & Benefits:

  • Hybrid schedule available after 90 days (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

  • Competitive compensation: $157,000–$200,000, depending on experience.
