About the Role

As a Life & Community Instructor, you will guide adults with developmental disabilities through essential daily living and social skills. Youll create engaging lessons, explore the community with participants, and support each individuals unique goals all within a warm, person-centered environment where everyone is valued and respected.


This role is hands-on, creative, and deeply fulfilling. Every day brings opportunities to learn, share, laugh, and grow alongside the people we serve.


What Youll Do

Instruction & Skill Development
Youll design and lead lessons that help participants gain confidence in:

  • Cooking & kitchen safety
  • Cleaning routines & maintaining personal spaces
  • Budgeting, shopping, and money handling
  • Appropriate social etiquette & communication
  • Community awareness and navigating public spaces
  • Teamwork, conflict resolution, and friendship-building
  • Time management, scheduling, and organization
  • Functional spelling and reading
  • Basic technology and digital safety
  • Critical thinking and decision-making
  • Self-care, grooming, and personal advocacy

Classroom & Program Support

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment every voice matters.
  • Adapt your teaching style to meet different learning needs.
  • Track participant progress and celebrate growth.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, therapists, case managers, and fellow instructors to support success.
  • Plan fun, meaningful activities throughout the year.

Safety & Support

  • Promote safety in all instructional settings, including cooking activities and field outings.
  • Assist with mobility, communication, or self-care when needed.
  • Keep classroom areas organized, clean, and welcoming.

Community Integration

  • Lead outings to local businesses, parks, cafes, and community spaces.
  • Model healthy social interactions and real-world skills.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend team meetings and required trainings.
  • Complete documentation accurately and on time.
  • Uphold participant dignity, privacy, and rights.
  • Follow agency policies and state guidelines.



Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required
    • Education, Human Services, Special Education, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills in English


Work Environment
