Lead Guides work in teams with another co-teacher in which they collaborate on creating a prepared environment for their children's optimal development. They communicate with families regularly and take careful observations with appropriate record keeping to ensure a strong understanding of each child's individual needs and interests. Lead Guides are offered 40 hours per week, with start and end times variable based on personal preference in the range of 7:30-4:30 each day.
Primary classrooms are mixed age groups of children 3-6 years old. The open position is for our Experiential Learning group that is a Montessori classroom with an emphasis on the natural world. The group takes daily walks around the community, exploring nearby parks, creeks, and trails. The candidate for this position must enjoy being outside and infusing curiosity and creativity into lessons.

Professional job responsibilities will include working with clients to restore motor, social and cognitive functioning, build confidence, develop coping skills, and integrate skills learned in treatment settings into the community settings. Examples of intervention modalities include creative arts, sports, adventure programming, dance/movement, and leisure education. Structured recreational therapy shall be provided during non-traditional hours to promote pro-social activities.
<ul>
<li> Plans, organizes, and coordinates recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education. Interviews the person served to assess capabilities/interests/barriers. Monitor progress and recommends changes modifications to program as required.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Consult with clinicians/physicians and other members of the rehabilitation team regarding therapeutic recreation goals for program referrals. Coordinate activities with staff/rehabilitation team and participate in care planning meetings.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Design and use various instructional strategies, innovations, and activities that are research based, reflective of best practice, and compatible with the total program effort.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Design community reintegration activities to assist the person receiving services with their physical and cognitive needs during physical recreational/leisure activity. Assist the person receiving services in understanding their various needs and limitations and how to manage them during function.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Differentiate instruction and educational programs and/or projects to meet students' special interests, learning styles, and identified level of academic achievement, intellectual and physical ability, and social and emotional functioning.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Responsible to apply professional knowledge and skills in accordance with accepted standards of clinical practice, to facilitate problem resolutions, and thereby the achievement of individualized goals and outcomes for the person served.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Provide treatment progress and status documentation in accordance with the Plan of Treatment. </li>
</ul>
 
Other Duties Include:
 
<ul>
<li> Participate in the team process, providing input and effective treatment strategies. Attend case conference and family educational meetings.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li> Use appropriate methods and tools in all teaching and training activities, including those associated with discharge.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li> Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct in relation to information that is confidential in nature.</li>
</ul>
 
<ul>
<li> Perform other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
 
Requirements:
 
Education: Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related major.
 
Experience: At least one year experience in recreational/play therapy preferred. Experience in youth and adolescent recreational therapy preferred.
Skills: A sound understanding of group leadership, group dynamics, and experiential education. Records management and Medicaid processes preferred. Advanced oral and written communication skills.
 
Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable. Must be able to move about the property. Must be able to participate in youth activities. Must be able to transport youth or staff. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that data is attainable under the law. Must be able to pass PAR evaluation of physical techniques and written certification exam.
 
Other: Must maintain an appropriate and valid state drivers license. Must be able to meet requirements for Companys Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes. Must meet state criminal background check requirements.
