The Substitute (Guest) Teacher is responsible for instructing scholars using the classical model of learning.
 
Line of Authority/Reports to: Guest Teachers shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Principal.
 
Works with: Vice Principal, Principal, Head of School's, Faculty, Department Heads, Office Staff, Health Services Coordinator, Families and Scholars of Leman Academy.
 
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:

<li>Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree -or- an Colorado state Teaching or Substitute Certificate.</li>
<li>DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.</li>
<li>First Aid and CPR Certification.</li>
<li>Working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards (Arizona College and Career Ready Standards) -OR- a willingness to learn such standards.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, co-workers.</li>

Duties and Areas of Responsibility:
<ul>
<li>Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior, maintaining order among the scholars for whom you are responsible.</li>
<li>Observe and evaluate scholars' academic performance, behavior, and social development.</li>
<li>Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet scholars' varying needs and interests.</li>
<li>Conduct scholar activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, questions, and work time that provides scholars with opportunities to observe, question, discover, and investigate in order to engage all scholars in learning rigorous academic content.</li>
<li>Instruct scholars using the whole class approach, small, leveled groups and individually using various teaching techniques and methods such as EEI, Direct Instruction, Socratic Teaching, Cooperative Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Discovery Learning.</li>
<li>Provide disabled scholars with assistive devices, supportive technology, and daily living skills.</li>
<li>Read books to entire classes or small groups.</li>
<li>Prepare scholars for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.</li>
<li>Guide and counsel scholars with social adjustment and/or academic problems, or special academic interests.</li>
<li>Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.</li>
<li>Enforce administration policies and rules governing scholars.</li>
<li>Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.</li>
<li>Instruct and monitor scholars in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.</li>

Position Summary:
Acting as a manager-in-residence, develop knowledge, skills and abilities needed to work in a management capacity, by shadowing and supporting the Program Manager in all program capacities.
 
Responsibilities Include:
 
Program Development
· Assist the Program Manager with organization and structure of the site
· Implement age-appropriate daily activities with youth; model appropriate activities to staff
· Provide support and assistance to enrichment curriculum related tasks
· Assist Program Manager with OCFS compliance requirements
· Build knowledge of Just for Kids quality programming expectations
 
Staff Management
· Supervise and assist staff as needed, taking an active role working with youth
· Assist Program Managers in maintaining staff compliance with Just for Kids policies
 
Recordkeeping
· Uphold confidentiality of information with regard to children and families, other staff, District operations, and the Just for Kids program at large
· Observe Program Managers role with daily communication with participating families, staff and school personnel
 
Ongoing Training and OCFS requirements
· Obtain 15 hours of training within first six months and 30 hours every two years
· Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications
 
Any other duties specified by the Program Manager and Just for Kids School Age Program administration
 
Schedule
Before and After school programs follow the District/School calendar, Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 8:45am &amp; 1:45pm - 6:00pm, plus 1 hour of planning each week school is in session. Both Before and Afterschool and Afternoon only positions are available.

Experience and Education: 2 years of experience working in childcare and 1-year supervisory experience preferred. 18 credits of education related course. Bachelor's degree; major in Childhood Education is preferred. Must hold current CPR and First Aid certifications.
